In
this morning's issue of the Daily
Tar Heel, the editors endorsed Lydia Lavelle for Carrboro
Board of Aldermen. Criteria that led to their decision were
Lydia's mediation experience on the New Horizons Task Force, her grasp
of the development process and ideas for streamlining it, her
experience in working with students through her position at the NCCU
Law School, and her potential to benefit inter-town cooperation between
Carrboro and Chapel Hill. Lydia appreciates this strong vote
of confidence from the editors of the Daily Tar Heel.

transportation issues, experience on the Town Planning Board and New
Horizons task force, along with other benefits she would bring to the

The
Independent Weekly
announced today that they are endorsing
Lydia Lavelle in her first campaign for the Carrboro Board of Alderman.
"I am extremely pleased," said Lavelle, "as this endorsement means so
much to local voters."
The Independent
recognized her commitment to working with the
town as the chair of the New Horizon's Task Force in the aftermath of
the recent contentious annexation of 300+ homes north of Homestead
Road. The Independent
further noted that she was well-versed on the issues
despite being a newcomer to the local political scene.
"I love Carrboro and would be honored if elected to help lead this
community. I would welcome the chance to work on the many
challenges that face our town."
Lavelle

Hank
Anderson Breakfast Club
Lydia
Lavelle received an endorsement from the Hank Anderson
Breakfast Club in her bid for a seat on the Carrboro Board of
Aldermen this fall. The endorsement process the HABC employed in
determining their recommendations included a questionnaire and a
candidate interview session.
A
posting on www.orangepolitics.com
describes the Hank Anderson Breakfast Club "as a
group of
Chapel Hill/Carrboro community leaders that has met regularly
on Saturday mornings for over twenty years. They discuss
and influence the public policy decisions made by local
governments that
affect African Americans in this area. The Breakfast Club's
endorsements are important to those voters who do not have the time to
stay current with the civil rights struggles that are so
important to racial minorities here."
Lavelle
is extremely appreciative of this endorsement. She feels that
one factor that led to this endorsement is her long
standing commitment to advocating for minorities through her
work at North Carolina Central University School of Law.
Victory
Fund

The
Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund has endorsed Lydia Lavelle in her bid for
a seat on the Carrboro Board of Alderman. Lavelle is pleased with this
endorsement because she believes in the Victory Fund’s value
statement, which is that true equality comes when
“…talented, committed and qualified openly LGBT
individuals step up to lead their communities.”
The Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund is the nation's largest LGBT
political action committee and the only national organization dedicated
to increasing the number of openly LGBT elected officials at all levels
of government. The endorsement process is rigorous. Receiving the
endorsement confirms that Lavelle is a progressive candidate with a
long history of leadership and service. In 2006, seventy-seven percent
of candidates endorsed by the Victory Fund won their races. This
unparalleled success rate points to the quality of the candidates they
endorse.
Lavelle wants to add her voice to the political debate and appreciates
that Carrboro is a town with a history of allowing its LGBT citizens
the freedom to live their lives honestly, without fear and with hope.
About the endorsement, Lavelle said, “I am honored to receive
this endorsement and I am grateful that an organization like the
Victory Fund exists to help make the landscape of politics reflective
of all the people in our nation. This endorsement
is another way for voters to evaluate my candidacy.” Lavelle
appreciatively declined to accept money from the Victory Fund for this
race.
